As a chemist I certainly think Chemistry is a fascinating
science, especially since you can make experiments in the lab with the stuff
you are interested in. That you can certainly not do with the stuff
of Astronomy, here all you can do is look, but what a sight! Amateur
astronomy has long been a favourite pastime of mine. Whenever I have
time and the sky is clear (too seldom both conditions apply, unfortunately),
I haul my telescope and binoculars out
to some dark place to marvel at the wonders of the sky. I sometimes also
make attempts at sky photography. In 1997, I tried a few shots at the celestial
showpiece of the century, comet Hale-Bopp.
