Amateur Astronomy

 

As a chemist I certainly think Chemistry is a fascinating science, especially since you can make experiments in the lab with the stuff you are interested in. That you can certainly not do with the stuff of Astronomy, here all you can do is look, but what a sight! Amateur astronomy has long been a favourite pastime of mine. Whenever I have time and the sky is clear (too seldom both conditions apply, unfortunately), I haul my telescope and binoculars out to some dark place to marvel at the wonders of the sky. I sometimes also make attempts at sky photography. In 1997, I tried a few shots at the celestial showpiece of the century, comet Hale-Bopp. You can see one of the resulting pictures by clicking here.
