This castle, some 20 km east of Eskilstuna, Sweden, was known as an estate already in the 14th century. The main building (picture) was built in the 17th century by the swedish Chancellor of State Axel Oxenstierna. Fiholm served as his main estate during his life, and has thereafter been owned by several prominent Swedish nobles. The castle is situated in a rich agricultural region near lake Mälaren. As most older estates, the Fiholm estate encompasses not only the main castle buildings, but also barns, stables, storage houses, and smaller houses where the people (peasants, servants, craftsmen, etc) supporting the estate lived.
